Artist Statement

I have always had an interest in art, however it wasn’t until I discovered fibre art that I decided to follow my passion.  I have a certificate in graphic design and work full time as a graphic/web designer.  I am a self taught artist, but feel my work experience has helped me in designing my own art.

I enjoy using various mediums in my art such as organza, cheese cloth, papers, chiffons, yarns and beads.  I also enjoy painting my own fabrics or using wax and pencil crayons to emphasize various designs.

My inspiration comes from what I see around me.  I take great pleasure in seeing the fibres evolve into a piece of art.

Abstraction of Betta
27" x 31"- © 2004 - $400.00

This piece was accepted into the Fibre Fantasy show in Brandon, MB.  I have been working on a series of fish and wanted to try something a bit abstract.  This is how I see betta fish, with their colorful tails floating through the water.

Fungi of Emma
21.25" x 19.25"- © 2004 - $275.00

The mushroom image has been drawn only with my sewing machine.  It was then colored with pencil crayons and embellished.  This was designed during a workshop at Emma Lake with Martha Cole.

Nature's Pine
15" x 14.50"- © 2003 - SOLD

Inspiration for this quilt came from our wonderful evergreen trees in Northern Saskatchewan.  The branch was stitched using the double thread technique.  The fabrics were commercial pieces that I over painted.

 Experiment #1
14" x 11.50"- © 2003 - $125.00

I was given some alpaca fibres to experiment dying with.  The blue was so vibrant that I wanted to create a piece with it.  This was a piece that evolved on its own from just playing and having fun!
