Artist Statement

For over 30 years I have been intrigued by the endless possibilities of
exploring and transforming textile materials into fascinating creations, manifested in the form of garments and wall hangings.   Elements of texture, embellishment, surface techniques, depth, movement, pattern, color and inner visions have defined my path.

Over the years, I have noticed that my work has been moving in cycles forming one giant series and, upon reflection, I can see that it is emerging, in a holistic sense as an expression of my being and life's experiences.

I strive to project the joyful, beauty of the nature that surrounds us, and the elements that uplift the human spirit. If I had one goal for my work, it would be to make someone, just for a moment, forget their troubles and feel a sense of delight and happiness.

Lilly has further enhanced her teaching abilities and professional
development by studying with many world renowned teachers and has achieved certificates from the London Institute of City and Guilds in Art & Design and Embroidery and Surface Design.  Her award winning work can be found in private collections in Canada, the U.S. and Europe and in numerous books and magazines.

Treasures from Mother Nature
33.25" x 26.25" - © 2005 - $1,000.00

Nature has always fascinated me.  In this piece I wanted to try and achieve some of nature’s textural beauty.  The butterfly, tree, pine cone, ferns and horsetail are textural and all in relief from the flat surface.  The butterfly and horsetail are thread painted on water soluble and then attached to the surface.

Grid I
24" x 38" -
© 2004 - $1,000.00

I love surface design.  This piece is built up using multiple techniques, a few of them to include, dyeing, discharge, over dying, stamping, and stenciling.  I then added more texture by appliqué and fraying cut out areas.

Autumnal Transcendence
24.5" x 35.5" - © 2002 - NFS

Watching the leaves in autumn turn colors and fall has always been a magical sight for me. Even though it's the death of a leaf, beauty can be witnessed.

Transfer paints, appliquéd, hand and machine stitching using decorative threads, beading.
