About Carol Seeley
Fibre Artist, Instructor
Canadian Quilters Association’s 2007 Teacher of the Year
The pleasure garnered from the touch of a piece of cloth has led me to create my art in fabric. I particularly enjoy the softness of touch of the cloth and the ability to depict details of the image with fibre and thread.
My primary subject matter lies in exploring the beauty, frailty and devastation of the world in my own backyard, the passages and coves between Vancouver Island and the main land of Canada. Whether viewed from the vastness of the oceans and mountainous islands or the detail of an individual tree, I feel blessed to be in this place at this time.
I strive to accurately portray the water in all its phases from calm to rough, trickling currents to torrential waterfalls. But the soul of this place lies in the life that lives and grows here. Many of my pieces encompass the lush and sometimes mossy flora of our ever green islands. The orca, eagle and blue heron are also frequent images in my work as the solitary sentinel that guards this land.
My coastal landscapes use value, colour and texture to create depth actual and/or perceived to invite the viewer into my world, real or imagined. I hope that in viewing my work you to will feel the majesty and isolation of this once pristine place.
I have been privileged to have my work appear in galleries and private homes in North America and Europe as well as several magazines and books. I have been juried into national and international quilt and art shows receiving awards regionally, nationally and internationally.
