Night Sky began as a way to use wonderful fabric without losing too much of the impact of that fabric. I was also interested in trying one of the techniques from Sandi Cumming's book, "Thinking Outside the Block". A solid montage of pieced blocks was too busy so I alternated them with plain blocks cut from the most dramatic areas of the fabric.
The finished piece reminded me of views from deep space telescopes, with the Milky Way as backdrop and the paths of the planets and stars moving across it.
