Depending on which way you “read” the panels, two very different stories are created.
Reading from left to right, nine butterflies are pinned in a collection/display box. On the second (centre) panel, they begin to break free, the box becoming a window frame. Viewed through the third window, distant landscape provides a haven – only three small butterflies remain in sight. The others have already found freedom.
Reading from right to left, the free and wild butterflies are trapped, then mounted for display.
100% Cotton & 10 metal straight pins; hand appliqué, pins hand stitched in place, machine pieced, machine quilted
