About Terry Aske
An award-winning art quilter, Terry has been designing and creating quilts since 1998. Her art quilts have been juried into national and international exhibits, and published in well known magazines. Many of her pieces are in private collections.
A perfectionist by nature, the precision demanded by the complex art quilts I create, combined with my passion for beautiful and vivid fabrics, makes art quilting the perfect outlet for my creativity. As a textile artist, I use fabric and thread as my art medium.
My style is contemporary, and I create both art quilts and abstract/modern quilts. I use a variety of techniques – machine-piecing, fusible appliqué, thread-sketching and free-motion-quilting are among those I use most frequently.
The design of a piece always evolves during the creative process, and the final quilt is often quite different from my original concept.
I love bright, intense, complex colors. My favorite color is chartreuse; you’ll find at least a bit of it in almost every one of my quilts. I often use dark backgrounds, as they make the bright colors “pop”.
I find inspiration all around me - the colors in a garden or landscape, the shape of a building, the design of a wrought-iron gate - any of these could stir my creative impulse. I try to make notes or take pictures whenever I see something that inspires me.
