About Vivian Kapusta
Quilting is Art, complex and intriguing!
Nature is my mentor, with its beauty and mystery.
I started sewing when old enough to reach the treadle on my grandmother’s abandoned machine. My first quilt was traditional, now my quilts are my own designs. They often lead me, taking on a life of their own.
A friend introduced me to painting on cloth. My love of watercolor painting came flowing back. Now I paint images on cloth with dye and enhance them with contour quilting. I explore both painting and quilting in one project.
My background includes a Home Economics degree with a major in textiles and design. Later, I painted with water colours, taking courses with the Federation of Canadian Artists. I have taught sewing and quilting at High School, Continuing Education as well as at provincial Home Economics conferences. Now retired, I lecture and teach workshops … when I’m not playing in the studio! In my spare time, I am secretary of the Canadian Quilt Association.
