I begin with black, white or plain coloured fabric, allowing endless possibilities. It is important to me that I explore and use every possible means to convey integrity through my art. The fact that cloth will respond to me when painted, discharged or dyed, allows me to acknowledge the resulting images and work with them. Fabric has its own personality and I can manipulate that texture and colour to attain my vision.
My preference for hand stitching is my background in traditional embroidery. I love the Zen rhythm of a needle pulling thread. As I learn to work with machine stitching, I marvel at the never-ending opportunities to explore. All techniques add to the uniqueness of each piece.
I am fascinated with water and the symbolism surrounding it. My objectives are to create textile art that reaches out to the viewer in a meaningful way.
Techniques: whole cloth, discharged and hand quilted
