Three divided background panels symbolize the ‘yesterday’, ‘today’ and ‘tomorrow’ of our Canadian Boreal forests. The distant hues of fiery autumn leaves and golden grasses call attention to the grove of trees in the foreground, spreading barren branches to the blackened heavens .... as each grove of trees disappears, the size and area of our forests recede and our natural landscape is further diminished.
Techniques: Background: the three heavily ‘felted’ wool panels and the synthetic suede border are quilted with gold metallic thread. Foreground: organza/cotton trees are machine appliquéd to the background with grey rayon thread and then cut to reveal an inner core of black wool felt for a naturalistic ‘scarred’ look. Binding: black synthetic suede.
