West Coast Jewel Detail

My love for textile art started as a child. At age six I was given my first sewing machine, and learned my first embroidery stitches. It was not until early retirement that I became a full-time artist and allowed myself the happiness and pleasure to fulfill my passion and obsession with fabrics and textures of all kinds.

My art reflects my travels, personal experiences and memories. Growing up in the South of England in Devon, and many years later moving to the West Coast of Canada has given me the chance to reflect and capture the beauty that is in our world, in my own art form. My colorful studio with all its paints, fabrics, fibers and treasures, beckons me to let myself go and succumb to my quiet, deep voice of inspiration.

Satisfaction as an artist comes through the expressions on the faces of people who view my art. Creating textile landscapes and abstract images satisfy my own obsessive expression, and tickle the imagination of the viewer. My role as an artist is to bring color, texture, mood and feeling into our world. It is not to make a living, but to enhance what it is to be human.

Techniques: Photography, digital printing, collage, painting, piecing and machine stitching on silk.
