What Lies Beneath began as an artistic interpretation of an old quote: successive series of stratified formations are piled on one another, almost like courses of masonry. (from Geology and Mineralogy, Considered with Reference to Natural Theology [1836], Vol. 1, 37.) While I was working on this art quilt, Haiti was overcome by a devastating earthquake on January 12, 2010. This quilt was redesigned to include a fissure representing this earth-shattering event and as homage to the many lives lost.

All proceeds from the sale of this quilt were donated to the Canadian Red Cross for the Haitian Relief Program.
