“Flower Power” has a quality of illumination from within its petals and its centre core of iridescent beads. I come to quiltmaking from a long standing involvement in art, using many different mediums- weaving, pottery, feltmaking, painting, printmaking, sculpture and papermaking.
For me the expression of the image is the driving force. It is important that I explore techniques, color and quilting in every art piece I make.
This quilt was inspired by an original black and white charcoal drawing by Bev Walters, a classmate of mine during undergraduate school in the early 70s. I translated the drawing into colour, using ink dyes. In colour, it took on its own unique identity that continues to exert power by its very presence.
