About Victoria Gray
BIO
Fortunate to travel the world, the sights have become inspiration for fibre artist Victoria Gray. Drawn to a realistic portrayal, appliqué is a natural medium. Under the tutelage of renowned teachers, exploration of different media and techniques have resulted in the fusion of other processes into her artwork. All types of fabric, paints, inks, dyes and fibres have become integral parts of her work. Vicki has received many awards for her artwork, exhibited nationally and internationally.
ARTIST STATEMENT
Fabric and skiing have been my two passions since my early teen years. It wasn’t until my husband took an early retirement and I left a career as a research scientist in the food industry and we moved to BC from Ontario in the mid 1980’s that quilting became a part of my everyday life. After following traditional patterns, it wasn’t long before I started to design my own quilts and quickly switched to art quilts. My home is in a rural area outside Kamloops near Sun Peaks Resort surrounded by nature which provides inspiration for much of my work. I greatly admire and appreciate the work of others and love to explore new techniques and materials which are incorporated into my pieces. When I’m not on the ski hill, I’m feeding my other passion for creating with fibre and fabric.
In 2008, I joined the Fibre Art Network, a wonderful group of very talented fibre artists who constantly amaze and inspire me.
