After long cold Canadian winters, we wait in eager anticipation for spring days to lengthen and for river ice to succumb to warming temperatures. Weakened and cracking under its own weight, the large mounds of ice begin to shift. As the water emerges the ice begins to sink and disappear. At the moment of breakup, there is a transition and the horizon becomes more defined. ‘Almost Spring’ is a celebration of promise and renewal.
