Just the mention of hiking in the Rockies triggers instant recall of breath-taking panoramas, sun-baked slopes, a few torrential downpours (even snow!) and the boundless feeling of well-being that arises whenever I escape to the mountains. This scene is from a 1980s family photo on a well-loved hike to Kinney Lake in Mount Robson Provincial Park. The trail features a gentle climb, ladyslipper orchids, a cedar grove, prickly devils club, avalanche slopes, the raging Robson River and, of course, refreshing stops at the many springs along the way.
