In 2000, when my mother’s memory began to fail, it motivated me to make my first quilt using photos. This marked the start of a new artistic passion with textiles. This quilt is a story of 20 years of exploration using both traditional and non-traditional methods.
Techniques: Background - naturally dyed fabrics from 16 plants, 4 metals. Appliques - Snow, kakishibu, indigo, eco, cyanotype and cellulose dye processes, various acrylic and fabric paints. Thicken dye, marbling, bleaching, laser and photo methods. Plastic, metal, paper, recycled wool and leaves. Weaving, felting and various machine embroidery, paper piecing, applique and stitching techniques.
