In a workshop with Susan Shie, I learned to explore themes based on words. The word I used to create this piece for Canadiana was ”Hats”.” Beginning with a white piece of cloth and a few lines made with a magic marker I thought about how we are each individuals but we are part of something larger. We may wear different hats and have different hair and skin color but we are all the same inside. One of the things I love about living in Canada is the cultural diversity of the people who live here and how tolerant we are of these differences. No matter which hat we wear we still can share our love with each other and that is why there are so many hearts that emerged in this piece.
