I was influenced by the design concepts of the West Coast Haida of Haida Gwaii and possibly a close similarity to the Maori culture. My imagery is of the Haida and their coastal/marine and wildlife environment, the long standing weathered totem poles amongst the cedar trees. In contrast to the misty rain forest climate, their ceremonial cloaks are stunning.
Techniques: By sketching, researching for ideas on the Haida First Nations to create an image for Canadiana. The materials used consists of cottons, various threads, batiks, wool, raw wool, fabric paints. Stitching included couching, thread play, appliqué, free motion quilting. A photo transfer of the face. A collection of shell buttons.
