Autumn at 53 degrees north latitude is a season of conflict. The enchanting colours, the crisp air, the bountiful harvest, each one fills the senses. However, these delights belie the imminent grayness that descends once wind has swept the leaves away and frost has deadened the grasses and darkened the flowers.
