This little creature sang a summer song for me one July evening on a farm near Lacombe, Alberta, undeterred by the barbed wire on which he was perched. The contrast of his freedom to the menace of barbed wire was an artistic challenge.
Materials/process: Lutradur spunbond fabric, Golden Digital Grounds, pigment inks, coloured pencil, wood, acrylic paint, cotton threads. For a weathered look, I digitally printed and hand-coloured the scene onto new-generation, spunbond fibres, then created the free standing structure. Prominent hand-stitches emphasize the prickliness of the barbed wire.
