Sunset Lewisia is a tribute to Lewis and Clark, the legendary explorers of the Pacific Northwest. In Lewis's 1806 journal he wrote "I found several other uncommon plant specemines of which I preserved". The Lewisia, a beautiful native succulent, was thus added to his catalogue of flora and fauna. This quilt is a fusion of many of the recent hybrid colours, ranging from lemon yellow through to maraschino cherry red.

Techniques: machine pieced commercial and hand-dyed cottons; machine quilted

Sunset Lewisia was awarded the 2006 CQA President's Award for Excellence in Appliqué and Honourable Mention in the Innovative Large Wall Quilt category, juried in to the 2006 Association of Pacific West Quiltfest, juried in to the 2007 World Quilt Show travelling exhibition, displayed at the Shelburne Quilt Museum Quilts in Bloom: A Bouquet of Textile Art in 2008, displayed at the La Conner Quilt Museum and the Surrey Art Gallery, Surrey, B.C and has been published in ads and articles in Quilter's Newsletter magazine.
