The Arbutus tree is native to the west coast of North America, from southern British Columbia to Baja California. This distinctive tree is easily identified by its unusual shape and colouring.
As the Arbutus reaches for sunlight while clinging to rocky cliffs, the trunks and branches twist into gracefully curved shapes. The intense colours of its bark form interesting patterns, as the older rust-colored outer layer peels away in strips, revealing the newer smooth chartreuse-green bark beneath.
