About Janet Scruggs

When mixed media artist Janet Scruggs looks at the world through the lens of her imagination, she sees texture, colour, line, shape. For Janet, who has a degree in education and a Level 3 Certificate from City and Guilds, a love of learning is matched by a love of teaching. She teaches, mentors others and exhibits. Her interest is piqued by themes and opportunities to use surface design techniques in conjunction with extemporaneous hand embroidery.
Janet is based in Kamloops, BC. She is in involved in the local arts council and part of an artists co-op gallery. As well, she exhibits in local, national and international exhibitions, and has won several awards for her artwork. When not creating, she teaches both online and in person sharing her passion for design and explorations of techniques.
“I am drawn to textiles of all varieties by an overwhelming need to explore and create. “What would happen if” is a question I constantly find moves me into yet another adventure of techniques and materials. This curiosity has led me down many a rabbit hole in my textile travels. Sometimes I discover something new and fabulous and other times are simply classified as a “learning experience.”
