About Theresa Shaw

Theresa Shaw I’ve been a sewist all my life. Starting in 2012, I have been making art quilts as a form of therapy and self expression. The tactile nature of fabric, and the often emotional attachment that we form with it throughout our lives, make it an ideal medium for expressing our connection between the past and present.

I like to mix old and new materials in each piece, from precious silks and wool found on world travels, to used clothing and vintage household linens. My style is mostly improvised and I like to use hand stitching as well as my sewing machine in my work.

Having recently returned to living on the prairies after many years away, I find inspiration in the wide open skies and flat horizon. This landscape is an apt backdrop for storytelling about my journey so far….

I post most of my artistic endeavours on Instagram @theresa.quilts
