Wilma began sewing early with Barbie doll clothes on her Moms treadle sewing machine, then went on to make her own clothes.
She earned her Bachelor of Education Degree from U.B.C. and enjoyed 35 years as an elementary school teacher. At age 48, she earned her Fine Arts diploma in Visual Art from S.F.U. She continues to love learning and teaching by giving trunk shows and workshops.
Wilma loves traveling and often uses her own photos for inspiration. Nature also plays an important role in her life and her art. She gives herself Permission to Play in her studio in order to experiment with various surface designs and new mixed media. She explores fabric dying, paper fusion, mono printing, free motion quilting, raw edge applique, thread painting, collage, and stamping. She loves doing improv quilts and Challenges to push herself out of her comfort zone.
