About Marianne Parsons

Marianne Parsons Marianne Parsons began sewing as a child, when it was considered important for every girl to learn all forms of needlework and mending.
In the late '80's, she began teaching modern embroidery in Okanagan communities. She joined the newly formed Double O Quilters Guild and began teaching basic quilt making skills. She moved on to teach quilt design and fiber art techniques, and still enjoys that today.
Her work has been juried into national and international shows.
She is a member of the Fibre Art Network, the Canadian Quilters Association, the Fabricators and the Double O Quilters Guild.
Artist Statement:
Creating art with fabric and fiber is her chosen form of expression. She's drawn to pictorial work and the texture and techniques that achieve this, either by hand or machine. Techniques borrowed from other art mediums and synthetic fibers are current sources of inspiration. Repurposed materials often feature in her soft sculptures as these fabrics symbolize the freedom to play.
