About Coreen Zerr
I began as a traditional quilter in the early 1990s but within a few short years I fell in love with creating fibre art pieces, most often in landscape form and often trees are my inspiration. I love to create with thread and paint and often get inspired by the beautiful surroundings of Vancouver Island where I live.
I love to mentor others what I have learned along this incredible journey with thread and fibre.
Coreens awards include many from the Nanaimo and Parksville Guilds as well as the Canadian Quilting Association National Juried Show. She received Best of Show and The Past Presidents Award in Nanaimo in 2001 and also Past Presidents award and Best of Show in Parksville 2006 and 2011. In 2010 won the Manitoba Homecoming and in 2011 that piece went on to win Best of Country at the World Quilt show.In 2014 paired with Krista Zeghers and won 1st for Original Realistic Design at the National show, and in 2016 won best in Thread work at the National Show. She has been commissioned to do several large pieces for corporate and private collectors.
I am now concentrating on promoting my work into art galleries.
In 2000, she received 3rd in Canada for the Northcott Quilt Challenge. She has had quilts selected for the Canadian Quilters Association National Juried Show in 2002, 2004, and 2006, 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2014. In May 2004 at the Canadian National Juried Show, she won Judges Choice for her quilt Kwanzaa Maidens and Honourable mention in the Innovative category for her quilt The Land of Fey. In 2007 she won Viewers Choice at the Canadian Nationals and Honourable Mention in the large Innovative category for the piece Lenten Seascape.
She has had quilts juried into the World Competition and Tour in 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006 and into the Grand Nationals 2005, 2006, and 2007, 2011.
For the last several years she has enjoyed teaching quilt classes at guilds and shops all over the Island, Sunshine Coast and Lower Mainland, as well as other Canadian provinces including the Canadian Nationals in Newfoundland 2008 and Saskatoon 2009 and Halifax 2012. She has made and donated several raffle and auction quilts for the Parksville and Nanaimo Guilds, The Order of Eastern Star, and the United Church of Canada. Coreen has also presented over 50 of her quilts to the Guilds various charity programs.
During this same time, she has completed five large landscape commissions for St. Phillips by the Sea Anglican Church in Lantzville, BC. As well as two large donated raffle quilts for both the Parksville and Nanaimo guilds upcoming quilt shows.
Quilting continues to be the main passion in her life and she enjoys challenging herself to reach out and try every facet of this art form.
