Joan Kilpatrick

Crowded and crumpled in the Toronto subway, I'm immersed in our diverse Canadian community. People have roots around the world and now travel together.  In my imagination, each person is vividly coloured by the layers of their unique personal experiences, aspirations and burdens. In these collage sketches, the richness of fibre art expresses the complexity of the characters. Their lives, like the images of their faces, are pieced, stitched, woven and fused together. These images suggest age, gender expression, culture and disability. Each person is on a journey towards living in full colour.
