Barcelona Fruit Stand was inspired by photos taken on a visit to Barcelona. 

This art piece began as a rough drawing of the fruit layout. The 'fuzzy textured' peaches and mangoes were made with wool roving.  The shiny apples were fashioned by applying fabric paint to heavy silk.  Hand-dyed silk chiffon fabrics were textured to create the lemon and orange skins.  Different types of silks were ideal for depicting the plums, pears and grapes. Finally, the watermelons, bananas and pineapples were created with fabric paints and inks.  Fine green wool fleece was inserted in various areas to replicate the green paper which often separates fruit displays.

Barcelona Fruit Stand was accepted into the Studio Art Quilters’ Association (SAQA) 2022 Gastronomy Exhibit which will tour to assorted international venues until 2025. The Gastronomy Exhibit will debut at the International Quilt Festival in Houston, Texas, October 2022.
