Ambeika: Fall Petals

134.6 cm x 193 cm

Ambeika: Fall Petals is an interpretation of the apple tree at Georgina Point Lighthouse (Mayne Island) that, though decaying and literally split in two, continues to produce a harvest: a symbol of resilience. "Ambeika" is Sanskrit for mother. The background is machine pieced, composed of hundreds of rectangles. The tree is made of strips of fabric and embellished with yarn and ribbon, adding to the texture. Fabric was cut and fused onto wadding to give thickness to the roots and leaves. Silk gives the leaves lightness.
