When a Redwood tree falls over and dies its roots rise many feet in the air and provide a home for plants, animals and fungi. New life takes root in the decaying wood. This piece was inspired by  a photograph taken in a Redwood forest in Northern California. It was one of my first pieces to incorporate felt. The roots were felted and then appliqued onto the background along with leaves made from yarns, ribbons and fabrics.
