The return of mature Sockeye Salmon from the Pacific Ocean to fresh water to spawn is one of nature’s great migrations and an awesome sight. With their skin turning brilliant red, they are drawn back to the shallow gravel beds in western rivers and streams where they themselves were spawned. Exhibited in FAN’s “Fibrescapes”.
Techniques: Invisible appliqué (Gloria Loughman’s method); hand and free motion machine embroidery; trapped and fused layering with batiks, silks, lamé and sheers (silk organza, crystalette, chiffon and tulle); foiling and painting.
