Refugees around the world face danger, abuse, and exploitation. Families are torn apart. The outstretched hands of these migrants are profoundly expressive; the same people are anonymized in a media barrage of quantities and statistics – ID numbers, caseloads, deaths. I am haunted by questions expressed through torn paper, frayed threads, distressed silk, faded traditional fabrics, and hand stitching.
