About Lilly Thorne
BIO
Lilly Thorne is a fabric artist who has travelled widely in pursuit of a greater knowledge of materials and methods. From traditional practices of embroidery, dyeing techniques both ancient and newly invented, to the use of digital imagery, Lilly’s work both embraces and pushes the boundaries of this medium. Lilly has achieved certificates from London Institute of City and Guilds in Art and Design, Embroidery and Surface Design. Her studio is located in Chilliwack, B.C. and she exhibits her work throughout Canada and the US.
ARTIST STATEMENT
I have always been intrigued by the endless possibilities of exploring and transforming textiles into multi-layered creations.
My current work is a composite of photography, digital art, mixed media and quilt art. My inspiration starts with a love of a particular image. I then collage several photos together in Photoshop, print them onto fabric and then enhance them with different techniques that are relevant to the print, to create these “stitched constructions.”
