About Lynn Ujvary
Lynn Ujvary is a textile artist based in the South Okanagan whose practice centers on slow stitch, textile collage and stitched paper. After retiring in 2020, Lynn began exploring online textile communities and techniques, eventually finding her way to slow stitching – a practice that reshaped how she works with materials, time, and story.
Her creative path is informed by earlier experiences in textiles and fashion design. While these chapters are not the focus of her current work, they contribute a deep and familiarity with materials, construction, and the tactile possibilities of cloth – knowledge that continues to surface in subtle and meaningful ways.
Lynn’s current work emphasizes intuitive making, layering, and hand stitching as a form of reflection and connection. She frequently repurposes vintage textiles and uses hand dyed fabrics, threads and papers, allowing colour, wear and history to guide the direction of each piece. Through these processes, she explores themes of care, sustainability and the quiet narratives embedded in reused materials.
Although her practice has shifted away from traditional/commercial garment making, Lynn finds herself continually drawn back to clothing as an artform – experimenting with stitch-led design and sustainable methods that align with the princeples of slow fashion.
Alongside her studio practice, Lynn is actively working to mobilize and grow a stitch community in the South Okanagan, creating spaces where makers can gather, share skills, and reconnect with handwork at a slower, more intentional pace.
