About Sharon Allman
Sharon has created needle and textile work since her childhood, although only began quilting after retirement from a healthcare career. She soon discovered textile and mixed media art, found resources to expand her skills, and surrounded herself with like-minded artists. Sharon studies in and works from her home studio in New Westminster BC, and is proud to have her work showing in Canadian galleries and in private collections within Canada and the USA.
Artist Statement
I am inspired by the natural world, its inhabitants, colour and human nature. My photographs of world travels and many years of boating on BC’s west coast often influence my art. Textiles, papers, paint, dye, found objects, digital prints and threads provide a rich source of design possibilities which inspire me to continue to learn and create. Lately I am attempting to use more vinatge textiles in an effort to work more sustainably. I find joy in the creative process as well as the final result and can be found in my studio almost every day. Continuing to learn, both formally in class settings and informally through books, media and from my talented artist colleagues keeps me engaged and eager to continue my creative journey.
