Canadian Expressions

Leonard Cohen is a Canadian poet, novelist and singer-songwriter whose work is important and influential. I listen to his song ~Hallelujah every morning when I enter my studio.
My current work is in portraiture, using fabric and thread. I wanted to do a portrait of a Canadian for this show. Peoples faces with the light and shadow on them and their intensity of expression, continuously challenge and excite me. The images Leonard Cohen created in his poetry and music are stark and inspiring, yet he is not known for being prolific. I have tried to interpret this by working in monotones.
Techniques: hand dyed cotton, pencil crayons, machine & hand stitching
