The Shape of Things to Come

Artwork by Barbara McNaughton

In the Beginning

Working with fabric has always been soothing to my soul. I began my quilting experience twenty years ago using traditional blocks and a hand needle. Now I find myself making art quilts with a sewing machine! I often plan my piece only to find it takes on a life of its own and the finished product is nothing like I planned to make.

I work mainly with cotton fabrics, using other products for embellishment. I hand dye and paint many of my fabrics. Texture is created with fibre & paint. Details are often crafted with special threads. My major interest at the present time is in exploring the illusion of depth by way of color and perspective. I am working with techniques and embellishment in landscapes as well as freehand drawing with the sewing machine.

Fibre Art is my passion and through it I hope to show others that it can be an inspiring experience for both the artist and the viewer.
