The piece connects to the FAN retreat at which Martha Cole challenged me to look at nature in a new way. I recognized my tendency to simplify shapes and became more observant of the diversity in nature. This piece represents that shift, from the uniformity of an even stripe to the diversity of a twisting aspen tree trunk.
