There is nothing sweeter than birdsong on a late summer evening, and nothing more hopeful than the trill of an early riser. I think of it as my daily concert, by the Master's Avian Choir. Mostly, the choir is heard but not seen. One summer day the lead singer, a redwing blackbird, agreed to pose for a photo on the edge of his favourite pond. His approachability inspired two complimentary silhouettes, produced for FAN's Chromatopia Exhibition.

The image above is a composite of details from each artwork. The initial bird image was developed by drawing in Sketchbook and Photoshop Elements from my own photo. Details were adapted for each composition.  The finished works are mounted on stretchers, ready to hang.

Night Watch (the blue artwork) is wet felted, with hand-made, acrylic-painted viscose 'paper' used for the image. Viscose fibres were applied in a 'halo' around the image also. Morning Song (the coral pink artwork) is nuno-felted, with hand-made viscose 'paper' used for the image. Merino wool and silk overlays were custom-dyed by me to colour specifications provided by the exhibition curators.
