Conference Day One – Thursday 20 August

Here we are in the great North at Yellowknife.

Our first event was a bookmaking drop in workshop with Jacquelyn (Jake) Burles a local book maker.  There were tables set up with a massive amount of supplies to pick from for our project making.  Here we are busy at work.

After dinner Erin Suliak spoke about her art practice and journey in making Vinok. Her powerpoint presentation displayed beautiful images of her work and powerful images of her wearing the headgear in stunning settings.

Our Northern ladies (the conference planning committee) also know as the ‘Tamarack Fibre Group’ treated us to their grand opening of ‘Flames, Charred, Regrowth’ a project of several works that each produced in the response to the evacuation of Yellowknife during their forest fire.

Images of their work in the blog tomorrow. Look for them.

Great opening activities and a delicious dinner. Thank you, ladies. Their exhibit was varied and insightful.

thanks for posting this, Karlie . . . would SO love to be there but in the midst of preps for Lake Country Artwalk . . . new facility this year, which isn’t finished yet, so lots of things to sort out – and at the last minute the washroom trailers are MIA – you may be able to hear the teeth gnashing all the way up there . . . 🙂
