So you’re mulling over making the trip to Yellowknife next summer, for the FAN 2026 Conference, ‘Northbound’? Just do it!
I lived in Yellowknife for 10 years, 2012-2022. What I still miss most – besides the life-long friends I made – is what I would call ‘the Yellowknife spirit.’ To me that spirit is the unexpected – unexpected people, unexpected institutions, unexpected events, unexpected experiences, unexpected sights. One such amazing ‘unexpected’ is Cabin Radio, and Cabin Radio’s Ollie Williams. He’s a British Olympic sports broadcaster who fell in love with the north and is the voice of the upstart and iconic Cabin Radio. He’s a great interviewer, as I know from personal experience. For a terrific introduction to the landscape, the buildings, the ‘feel’ of Yellowknife, watch Cabin’s newest mini-video, shot by drone on a recent very cold day, Scroll down to ‘Beauty of -35 Subarctic City in 4K: Yellowknife Winter’. It will be 5 minutes well spent. Here it is: https://cabinradio.ca/ https://cabinradio.ca/
Of course our conference will be in SUMMER, not winter, so don’t be scared off. Personally I liked winter as much as I did summer – well, they’re both great. The organizing team is excited about having folks here.
