ABSTRACT ARBUTUS

$200.00

23" W x 28.25" L

This wall hanging was created after an interesting class with Kathy Bush.  A close up photo was taken of a small area on the bark of an Arbutus tree, also known as a Madrona tree.  We were to recreate the photo we had in fabric.  The piece certainly reminds me of all the wonderful colors found on the trunk of the tree as the old bark begins to separate.  The  bright green is the most stunning color once the old bark peels away.

Methods/materials used:  machine quilting, Broderie Perse, Crinkle Magic, stuffing, raw edge applique with machine satin stitches.  Quilting cottons, and satin fabrics were used.  Pencil stitches were quilted into the piece to keep any creases from occuring in the green satin fabric.  The challenging part of the process was getting the peeled bark fabric to roll - and stay rolled to represent the curled bark.
