The 1930s were a time of drought, poverty, farming disasters, and suffering across the Prairies. We forget, in our current concern with climate change, that man has experienced such disasters before, on a scale we never thought possible. The suffering and shock created new understanding of our actions, and sparked invention in our processes and relationships with our environment. The current climate issues will do the same.
Historical records and photos of dust storms in the Depression Era (1930s) inspired these designs. To complete them, I created a value mapping system for discharging cotton fabrics. Each images is fused to polyester felt backing. Mounted, ready to hang.
