Amrita Raine

52.7 cm x 141 cm

Amrita Raine, begun when my daughter was in her early teens, is a textile ode to her effervescent being. The tree came together relatively quickly while the title took a bit longer to show itself. Amrita and Raine are Sanskrit words. The former meaning "immortality" and "ambrosia"; the latter meaning  both "queen" and "she is singing". The piece celebrates its muse, through the textile detail and the title. The tree was made from numerous strips stitched improvisationally. The leaves were fuse appliquéd on to a pieced background.
