Bell Without Heart

NFS

20"x30.5"

The bell, 170 cm tall and weighing 3 tonnes, was created in 1563 for New Town Hall in Prague, to call city councillors to meetings and citizens to hear the announcements. The creator Brikci of Cimperk added an inscription in Latin: 'Community without laws, and laws without enforcement, are like a bell without heart.' Its 50 kg clapper was removed 200 years ago for repairs, lost, and never heard of again.

Technique by Esterita Austin: painted with acrylic metallic paints on parchment paper, then heat-tranferred using Misty Fuse to organza. Machine stitch-painting and quilting.
