There's a saying on the Prairies: "Don't like the weather? Wait five minutes". We all share memories of sudden thunderstorms and just-as-sudden clearing after a downpour. This piece honours such rapid changes in weather, and the beautiful movement and soft gradations of colour that result. The many layers and softly frayed edges of the background  imply the softness that we imagine in the clouds overhead. The chenille ground ranges in soft whites at top to threatening blues and greys at bottom, giving a sense of weight to the piece. 

This artwork is a metaphor for life. We go through periods of rapid change and upheaval, followed by periods of calm and refreshment after the storm passes. 

Acrylic paint on cotton (6 sky inserts). Handmade chenille background: 4-8 layers cotton, silk and synthetic fabrics. Cotton backing, stretched, ready to hang.
