Nora Ready

This piece is constructed by machine stitching many strips of botanically dyed cotton and silk together. Some of the plant matter used include onion skins, alder and maple leaves, and strawberry calyxes. I made marks with hand stitching - running stitch, crosses, lazy daisies. The two circular embellishments have bead and button detail. The title refers to the different mordants used to make the botanical colours lightfast - copper inviting the brighter tones and iron influencing darker ones.
