Hermina Joldersma

As a contribution to a show on Endangered Species in the NWT I made this "little brown bat," susceptible as all bats are to lethal nose fungus. Bats are often pictured as nasty little creatures, but that's likely because they're frantically afraid while being held by human hands. I made mine friendlier... repurposed leather coat, silk/rayon velvet with pen outline, handdyed cotton sky. Mounted on canvas.
