Nan Williams

The written record that civilizations leave behind forms a huge part of our understanding of how they lived and who they were; it brings them "into the light", perhaps. However there are scripts that have never been deciphered and peoples who are virtually unknown to us. This reality forms the basis for the symbolism in this series of artworks. Specifically in this piece, symbols from the undeciphered Etruscan script are inscribed in the darker sections.
